Story Line - So predictable, I was majorly disappointed. Didn't feel the build up to this supposed drama, if I have to compare, I would say Samuel L. Jackson's acting in Unbreakable was more memorable than Foxx's and Cruise's effort put together here. Felt like the train had left the station coz Foxx and Cruise failed to carry me throughout the movie. The bite was just missing. So much for dramas this year, huh?
Popcorn Required! - I should've been warned. I didn't like Michael Mann's potrayal of Ali either. I admit walking out to buy popcorn then. Here while watching Collateral, we regretted not having popcorn!
Back to the story, simply put Cruise plays Vincent, the taxi passenger from hell. Unfortunate taxi driver Max (Foxx) finds himself abetting professional hitman Vincent in the murder of six civillians including a hot hoochi mama lawyer, Annie(Jada Pinkett Smith) whom he drove earlier in the day. No prizes for guessing, Max plays an important part in saving Annie's life. Though IMHO for a small role, Jada played lawyer Annie better than Halle Berry did for Catwoman.
Thriller?? - Nah, not the slightest bit thrilling. Darn, I hope Denzel does waaay better in Man On Fire and The Manchurian Candidate.
Somehow I can picture Colin Farrell or even Al Pacino playing the role of Vincent more convincingly. Pacino don't even need the white hair look. haha... Nevertheless, Cruise still had all the best lines of the night, as you would find below, some of my favourites.
Best Lines of the night
- Max : You just met him once and you killed him like that?
Vincent : What? I should only kill people after I get to know them?
- [discussing two policemen who have pulled Max over]
Vincent : If they open that trunk, they're going inside it.
