May 13 2004 - Woke with a sore right oblique muscle this morning.. figured might have been side-effect (no pun intended :P) of my first Pilates class at gym yesterday. Pilates focuses on the core muscle groups.
Quote from Pilates.com: Pilates dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It can even help alleviate back pain.
Pilates develops a strong “core,” or center of the body. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Pilates exercises develop core control, integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.
Good to know my abs held up, but still have to practise releasing my stomach muscles slowly in the exercises. Close to bending and unbending your spine one bone at a time! haha.. It's indeed challenging! Curious, i suffered from toe cramps (weird!) during the session. Wonder why...
Instructor Vincent was very accomodating and correcting our postures ever so often. His body was sleek and toned, form was perfect and will be a very long time before i come even close.
Today I'm reeling from the effects, sore lower ab muscles as well, but i suppose it's a good sign, huh? If only I could follow this class regularly... :( It's a bit too early (in the evening) for me.
