Body Challenge 2004

Body Challenge Week 1 - 9th June

June 09 2004 - 3rd day into the challenge, time to get down and dirty. Think Bali! Did my first assesment today and this is how it went.

Convict photos! - That's exactly how I felt, minus the board with the Criminal No. haha.. Prabha, a fitness instructor (FI) at gym took my photos. It was really embarrasing. He took a profile shot from the left and right, and a full frontal shot. No, I did not demand for the file, perhaps I should. :P The only plus point: I didn't not have to dress in tights! phew!

Body measurements - Height, weight, waist, hip, body fat percentage(BFP), blood pressure.. were all measured. Body Mass Index(BMI), Hip Waist Ratio (HWR) were calculated. My personal target would be to drop body weight, mass and BFP. My, sounds like a mountain. I've always had these targets, just never got down to it. Ah, the story of my life. :P

Physical tests - Yuki, (guys must be thinking Sailormoon hehe..) my FI, took me on the rounds. She's a cute half Japanese gal, now sports blonde, short permed hair ala afro. Ok, enough about her, stop drooling guys! Was given a Heart Rate Monitor(HRM) to put on, and them these breasts! The HRM was so meant for guys only. Took me awhile to figure it out. :-( Already traumatised, here we go!

Step Test - 2 Steps boards were stacked at a height of approximately 50cm off the ground! For 300 seconds (5 mins), I was to step up, and step down! Boy, it was both tiring and boring! Didn't help, Yuki was pacing by saying, "Up, up, down, down". Needless to say, I didn't keep up with the pace! Into 2.5 minutes, I was already tired, right quads were strained, and I changed to step up with the left leg. Was so out of breath, became clumsy and nearly knocked the step board over. haha..

Was so glad when I finally reached the 5 minute mark! I was sweating buckets, my pulse was racing and I thought my heart was gonna leap out of my body. My heart rate was taken 1min, 2min and 3minutes after the mark. A score for this exercise was calculated out of some formula and on to the next test...

Sit and Reach - Sat down on the floor, legs straightened, in front of a ruler taped to a bench. The either is to measure flexiblity. Bent forward towards my feet and my reach was measured against the ruler. Employed 'strategy' here. ;-)

Abs Strength - This test was broken down into a few levels to measure the abdomen muscles's strength.

  • Stage 1: Lie with back flat on the floor, legs bent at 90 degrees. Put palms on bottom of thighs. Lift yourself up, while sliding palms up till past your knees. - Passed
  • Stage 2: Same position. Lie with back flat on the floor, legs bent at 90 degrees. Put palms on bottom of your thighs. Lift yourself up, and try to extend your elbows pass your knee. - Passed
  • Stage 3: Lie with back flat on the floor, legs bent at 90 degrees. Bend and cross arms at bottom of your thighs. Lift yourself up. - Passed
  • Stage 4: Same position. Lie with back flat on the floor, legs bent at 90 degrees. Bend and cross arms over your chest. Lift yourself up. - Passed
  • Stage 5: Lie with back flat on the floor, arms bent and crossed over each other, behind your head. Try to lift yourself up. - Failed

Push Ups - "On your toes, girl!", said Yuki. I knew I was in for a hard time. :( Girls, normally do this exercise on their knees. Anyway, time to employ the 'strategy'. hehe... But i think i failed miserably.

Dude! Where's my t-shirt? - And that was the end of the story. Was given a t-shirt for this challenge, which I duly misplaced. So wat else is new? Lucky my head is attached to my neck. :P

I'm gonna get an exercise card! - Shall meet up with Yuki again to customize an exercise program to follow throughout the 12 weeks. haha.. hope I dun leave it empty.

On Nutrition - Still waiting for the nutrionist to give me a call to set up an appoinment. Don't any of you ask me out for 'delicious' food for the next 11 weeks ! :(( I always say food which tastes good, can't be good for you! Don't test my will power coz I ain't got any. :P

pssst! dun ask me what foods I've been eating coz u really dun wanna know hehe..

Think Bali....
